MADARIPUR, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS) - A bumper Aman paddy harvest has transformed the rural landscape of the district into a scene of celebration this season.

Thanks to favorable weather conditions, government incentives, and the distribution of high-yielding seed varieties, a vibrant harvest festival is now underway across the district's five upazilas.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), farmers cultivated Aman on 24,300 hectares of land this year-surpassing the target of 22,610 hectares. Farmers and officials alike attribute the expanded cultivation and increased yield to ideal weather, timely pest control, and effective field-level supervision.

Across Madaripur Sadar, Rajoir, Kalkini-Dasar, and Shibchar upazilas, farmers are now deeply engaged in harvesting, threshing, and drying their paddy. Fields that once remained uncultivated during this season are now shimmering with golden crops, bringing visible joy and relief to growers.

Scenes of rural activity dominate the landscape-farmers cutting paddy with sickles, tying sheaves, and carrying bundles home on their heads. Yards are filled with the rhythmic work of threshing and the aroma of freshly harvested paddy, giving the region a festive atmosphere.

Razzak Tayani, a farmer from Panchkhola village in Sadar upazila, said, "A few years ago, no one used to cultivate paddy in this season. On the advice of the Agriculture Department, cultivation has restarted on the fallow land. We are benefiting from this, and the unused land is now productive again."

Echoing this sentiment, Tuhin Sharif from Dasar upazila said, "This season's cultivation has been excellent. The rain and wind were favorable, and there were no diseases. As a result, the yield was good. We are all happy."

Farmers are optimistic about earning higher profits this year due to reduced production losses and stable weather conditions. Many believe that consistent guidance from agricultural officers has significantly contributed to increased productivity.

Dr. Rahima Khatun, Deputy Director of the Madaripur DAE, said, "As part of government incentives, farmers received high-yielding seed varieties and necessary assistance. This helped us exceed our cultivation target. With favorable weather and no major disease outbreaks, the yield has met our expectations, and we hope farmers will secure good market prices."

She added that regular land inspections and disease-management support by extension officers have had a clear impact on improving crop conditions.

Overall, the bumper Aman paddy harvest has brought renewed hope and financial relief to the rural communities of Madaripur. Golden paddy swaying across vast fields stands as a testament to the district's agricultural revival and the promise of a prosperous season ahead.
