SHERPUR, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) - A free distribution programme of Ufshi and hybrid paddy seeds has begun in Sherpur district to encourage increased Boro cultivation during the current Rabi season.
Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ishtiaq Majnun Ishti inaugurated the distribution programme at 11 am today on the premises of Sadar upazila Parishad. The event was presided over by Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Muslima Khanam Nilu.
Additional Agriculture Officer Nusrat Jahan Lopa, Agricultural Extension Officer Md. Anwar Hossain, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers from the municipality and various unions, along with beneficiary farmers, were also present.
According to the District Agriculture Department, 15,000 farmers across five upazilas of the district will get 2 kilograms of hybrid paddy seed each under the government’s agricultural incentive programme.
Additionally, 2,600 farmers will receive 1 kilogram of Ufshi paddy seed along with 10 kilograms of chemical fertilizer.
In Sadar Upazila alone, 3,200 farmers will be provided with free hybrid paddy seeds, while 700 farmers will receive Ufshi seeds and chemical fertilizer.
