GAIBANDHA, DEC 07, 2025 (BSS) – The Gaibandha Liberty Day was observed today with due respect.
Marking the Liberty Day, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, district unit, chalked out elaborate programmes in cooperation with the district administration.
In the morning, around 10 am, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of Zilla Shilpakala Academy of the district town here, with the convener of the unit, Ashraful Islam Ranzu, in the chair.
DC Mohammad Masudur Rahman Mollah attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest, and Police Superintendent Md. Jashim Uddin spoke at the event as the special guest.
Former company commander and former MP Saiful Alom Saza, ADC-General Jadob Sarker, convener of District Bar Association Adv. Sekendar Azam Anam, member secretary of the unit FF Abdul Mazid, and FF Mujibul Haque Sana addressed the function, among others, while FF Moynul Islam Raza moderated the event.
The FFs, in their speeches, said that during the Liberation War, local youths, farmers, workers, and common people stood by the freedom fighters and built strong unity.
As a result, it was possible to free Gaibandha from the enemy, they also commented.
“The people of Gaibandha showed unparalleled courage and strong unity during the period of the Liberation War,” the DC said, adding that “This day reminds us of the spirit of the independence of the country.”
At last, a doa mahfil was held, wishing for the progress and development of the country.
After talking to the freedom fighters, it was learnt that on this day in 1971, valiant freedom fighters (FFs) liberated Gaibandha town, defeating the Pakistan occupation forces who had entered Gaibandha town on April 17, 1971, and stationed themselves at the wireless office and then at Helal Park, now Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium.
A team of over 350 FFs, led by company commander Mahbub Elahi Ranju, Bir Protik, from Kalasonarchar via Balashighat, entered the town through Pulbandi area with great joy and pride, bearing the flag of independent Bangladesh and shaking hands with the people standing on both sides of the streets.
Then, the FFs gathered at Independence Square, formerly known as SDO (Sub-Division Officer) Math, of the town, in the morning around 9 am, and heaved a sigh of relief while they enjoyed the taste of freedom after months of fighting.
As the news spread, the people of Gaibandha town rushed to the ground, rejoiced in the liberation of their motherland by chanting slogans with the FFs, and gave reception to the FFs for their heroic achievement.
