WHO country director visits health care center in Natore

NATORE, Dec 6, 2025 (BSS) - Dr. Ahmed Jamshed Mohammed, Country Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), today visited the “Elderly Care” health care centre for old age people in Gurdaspur upazila of the district on Saturday .  

Dr. Mohammed also visited the homes of the center’s senior service recipients in the Khubjipur area and distributed gifts among them.

A programme was organized at the Elderly Care center in honor of the visit, led by Health Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman and presided over by Professor Dr. Wajiul Alam Chowdhury, President of Elderly Care. 

Key speakers at the event included NGO Affairs Bureau Director General Abu Daud Mia, Qatar Charity Country Director Zakaria Al Motayir, Secretary General of Enderly Care Brigadier Iqbal Hassan, Natore Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Moktadir Arefin and Gurdaspur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fahmida Afroz.

Terming the Prabin Health Service Center a global model, Dr. Mohammed said, “I am impressed and inspired by the extraordinary activities of the Prabin Health Service Center.

The primary mission of WHO is to support elderly health care and many countries, including Bangladesh, are committed to protecting the elderly. 

Everyone, including the young, should come forward to serve the elderly, just as parents care for their children.”

The visit highlights WHO’s ongoing commitment to elderly care and the exemplary efforts of local initiatives like Elderly Care in Natore.
