KURIGRAM, Dec 6, 2025 (BSS) - The district observed Liberation Day with solemn respect and a series of elaborate programs honoring the historic occasion today.
The events were organized by the Sadar Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad, with participation from various cultural groups, women's councils, and socio-political organizations.
The day's celebrations began with a vibrant victory procession that started from the District Muktijoddha Sangsad Complex. The procession moved through the main thoroughfares of the town before gathering at College Cross, where participants laid wreaths at the Victory Pillar in tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
A discussion meeting followed, reflecting on the significance of the day.
Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Rana, freedom Fighter Major (Retd) Abdus Salam, Freedom Fighter Abdul Hai Sarkar Bir Pratik, District Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Upazila Commander Abdul Baten, among others, addressed the gathering.
Speakers emphasized the importance of passing down the true history of the Liberation War to the younger generation.
On December 6, 1971, after a fierce offensive by the freedom fighters, Pakistani occupation forces retreated from Kurigram, leading to the district's liberation.
