NATORE, Dec 3, 2025 (BSS) - The National Consumer Rights Protection
Department (NCRPD) has imposed a fine of Taka 50,000 on a man in Bagatipara
upazila of the district for producing adulterated jaggery by mixing harmful
substances into food products.
The enforcement action was taken at 1.00 pm today, under the supervision of
Md. Nazmul Hasan, assistant director of the NCRPD's Natore District Office.
A team conducted a raid in Kalikapur area of the upazila, where they
discovered the adulteration process. The jaggery was being produced by adding
harmful chemicals such as hydrose and lime, both of which are unsafe for
human consumption.
Janarul Islam, a local jaggery producer, was fined Taka 50,000 for violating
food safety standards. During the raid, authorities seized 200 kilograms
(KGs) of adulterated jaggery, 20-kg of lime, and 500 grams of hydrose from
the production facility. These items were immediately destroyed.
Md. Nazmul Hasan said the NCRPD is committed to ensuring food safety and
consumer protection, and officials confirmed that the operation would
continue to monitor and address such violations in the region.
