GAIBANDHA, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS) - Aman paddy and rice procurement drive has begun in Saghata upazila of the district amid much enthusiasm to the concerned.
In this regard, an inaugural session was also held at Bonarpara Food Supply Depot of the upazila on Monday.
Upazila food controller Farhad Ibne Salam formally inaugurated the paddy rice procurement drive as the resource person of the food department through purchasing paddy and rice from the farmers and the millers respectively.
Officer in charge of Local Supply depot Md. Matiar Rahman, president of upazila rice mill owners association Abdul Halim, general secretary Rafiqul Islam, joint secretary of upazila Jubo Dal Zahangir Alom Jewel, local elite were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, upazila food controller Farhad Ibne Salam said the government would purchase as many as 132 tonnes of Aman paddy from the farmers and 1606 tonnes of rice from the millers of the upazila during the current Aman season through food department.
Price of per kg paddy has been fixed at Taka 34. On the other hand price of per kg of rice has been fixed at Taka 50, he added.
He also urged the farmers and the millers to provide paddy and rice to the departmental food godowns through maintaining official rules and procedures.
Talking to the BSS district food controller Md. Mizanur Rahman said the government would purchase a total of 1200 tonnes of paddy and 14016 tonnes of rice from the district this season.
