KHULNA, Nov 25, 2025 (BSS) - The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women was observed in Khulna today with a rally and discussion on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's Office.

The programme was jointly arranged by the Khulna District Administration and the Department of Women Affairs. This year's theme was "Unite to end violence against women and girls; ensure digital safety."

Khulna Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondol inaugurated the programme.

Speakers at the event stressed that ending violence against women requires strengthening their capacity and ensuring their economic empowerment.

They said incidents of violence tend to decrease when women become economically self-reliant, allowing them to claim their rights with greater confidence.

They added that women now play vital roles both at home and in the workplace and society must ensure due respect for their contributions.

Suraiya Siddika, Deputy Director (additional charge) of the Department of Women Affairs, and women's rights activist Advocate Shamima Sultana Shilu spoke at the programme.

Representatives from women's organizations, NGOs and volunteer groups joined the event.

The observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will continue in Khulna until December 10.
