BNP candidate for Rangpur-3 Samu starts cleaning Shyamasundari canal

RANGPUR, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - BNP-nominated candidate for Rangpur-3 (Sadar) constituency and metropolitan BNP convener Samsuzzaman Samu has started a cleaning program at the century-old Shyamasundari canal, which has become a dumping ground for waste  in Rangpur city. 
 
He, along with leaders and workers of BNP and its associate organisations, inaugurated the cleaning of Shyamasundari canal in the check post area of Rangpur city Sunday afternoon. 
 
On the occasion, Samu said that Shyamasundari canal is a matter of trouble for Rangpur city. 
 
“We can enhance the beauty of this Shyamasundari canal by planning and its proper implementation. We can keep it clean. We will implement the work with a 100-year master plan. We will modernize it,” he said.
 
He said that the BNP will come to power in future. 
 
“I will request BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to implement the 100-year plan of Rangpur city. Tarique Rahman will cooperate with us in the development of Rangpur city. With this belief, we are working for the party,” he said.
 
He said, “We will create a modern plan through which there will be no problem with waste management in Rangpur city in future.”
 
The first of the 100-year master plan is the Shyamasundari canal renovation and beautification. 
 
He said that trees will be planted next to Shyamasundari canal that will also create an opportunity for vehicle movement. 
 
“We will modernize Shyamasundari in the system. For this purpose, I have given a proposal for a prosperous Rangpur,” he said.
 
At that time, Shamsuzzaman Samu announced the formation of a committee called 'Shyamasundari Development Authority' in the next hundred-year development plan to bring the Shyamasundari canal to a modern process. 
 
Addressing the occasion, Rangpur District Jubo Dal president Nazmul Alam Naju said that a painful place has been created for the people of Rangpur centring the Shyamasundari canal. 
 
“After cleaning, it will have to be renovated to make it modern. The surrounding canals, fields and rivers will also have to be renovated. There are everything in the 100-year master plan to create a modern Shyamasundari canal,” he said.
 
Rangpur Metropolitan BNP members Rezaul Islam Lablu, Rafiqul Azad, Samsuddoha Saju, Mohsin Ali, Abdus Salam, Jamil Khan, former joint general secretary of District Chhatra Dal Shahidul Islam Shahid, Metropolitan Krishak Dal member-secretary Feroz Rahman Pintu, Metropolitan Muktijoddha Projonmo Dal president Abdullah Al Mamun, along with leaders of Metropolitan and District BNP and affiliated organizations were present at the event.
