BARGUNA, Nov 22, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court here on Friday evening arrested four individuals for allegedly providing medical treatment using fake identities and fabricated academic credentials.
The drive was conducted on Sher-e-Bangla Road under the supervision of Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate S. M. Shariat Ullah.
Officials said the mobile court inspected the chamber of Zahirul Islam Sourav, identified as one of the fake practitioners, where the operation was carried out.
During the raid, the certificates of all four accused were examined in the presence of Dr Rafiqul Islam, representative of the Civil Surgeon's Office.
After verification, the court fined Bidhan Ranjan Sarkar and Dilip Kumar Das Taka 1 lakh each under Section 29 of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act-2010. Both were released upon submitting bonds, pledging not to practice medicine illegally.
The remaining two accused - Zahirul Islam Sourav and SK Laskar - were sentenced to one and a half years and six months' imprisonment respectively and later sent to jail.
Authorities noted that this was not the first crackdown of its kind in the district. On June 28 this year, seven fake doctors were arrested on similar charges and awarded various sentences.
Notably, Zahirul Islam Sourav and Bidhan Ranjan Sarkar had also been detained during that earlier operation and had pledged not to engage in medical practice without valid credentials.
