Bakery fined for unhygienic production, using counterfeit packets in Cumilla

CUMILLA, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection (DCRP) has fined Hafsa Sweets and Bakery Taka 20,000 for producing food in an unhygienic environment and selling sweets in counterfeit packets in the Didar Market area of Cumilla Sadar Dakshin upazila.

During a drive conducted from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, officials found the factory's production floor dirty and unhygienic.

Authorities also discovered the use of unauthorized food colors and the sale of rosmalai in fake boxes labeled instead of the company's own branding. These acts were found to be in violation of several sections of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.

The operation was led by Md. Kausar Mia, Assistant Director of the Department of Consumer Rights, Cumilla. Office Assistant Farida Yasmin, sample collector Md. Shakib, and other officials were present during the raid.

Assistant Director Kausar Mia said the fine was imposed for breaching consumer protection laws, and a formal warning was issued to the company.
