RANGPUR, Nov 19, 2025 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested the main accused in the case filed in connection with the murder of a young man, who was strangulated and hanged from a tree in Gaibandha, from Pabna district on Tuesday evening.

The arrestee is Mst. Shefa Begum, 45, daughter of late Amir Uddin Munshi of village Purbo Anantapur under Saghata police station of Gaibandha district, said a press release here today.

Quoting the complaint filed by the plaintiff, the release said that the arrested accused Shefa Begum is the divorced second wife of the plaintiff and is the stepmother of the victim Sharif Rahman Shuvo. 

The plaintiff divorced the arrested accused woman a long time ago. As part of that anger, she had been trying to harm the victim. 

In this context, the arrested accused and her co-accused took the victim to an unknown place and strangled him to death in a premeditated manner. Later, they hung the victim from a tree branch to show his death in a different way on February 2, 2025 at night.
 
Later, an unnatural death case was registered at Gaibandha Sadar police station. 
 
After receiving the autopsy report, the victim's father filed a murder case at Gaibandha Sadar police station on September 2, 2025 in this regard.
 
On a tip off, a joint operational team of RAB-13’s Gaibandha Camp and RAB-12’s Pabna Camp in a raid arrested the main accused Mst. Shefa Begum from the Dilalpur area under Sadar Thana of Pabna district at 6:15 pm on Tuesday.
 
Later, the elite force handed over the arrested accused woman to Gaibandha Sadar police station today for legal action.
