RANGPUR, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) – The average yield of short and medium-term Aman rice is forecasting bumper production of this staple food grain in all five districts of the Rangpur this season.

Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for Rangpur region Krishibid Md Sirajul Islam today told BSS that, “Farmers are still harvesting short and medium-duration Aman rice varieties and are getting encouraging yields.”

"After harvesting short and medium-term Aman rice on 20 percent of the total cultivated land area so far, farmers have achieved an average production rate of 3.14 tonnes of clean rice (4.71 tonnes in the terms of dry paddy) per hectare of land," he said.

With the progress of the long-term Aman paddy harvesting from the end of this month, the average yield rate will increase further, leading to bumper production of the crop in addition to achieving the set production target.

"As the amount of crop damage due to recent floods, insect attacks and other problems has been minimal to negligible so far this year, we are expecting a bumper production of Aman rice in the Rangpur agricultural region this season," said Krishibid Islam.

Harvest of Aman rice is gradually getting full momentum with an excellent yield rate in the region where farmers are happy with the excellent yield rate of the crop in terms of clean grains this time.

Earlier, the interim government through the DAE had set a target of producing 20,10,505 tonnes of clean Aman rice (30,15,757 tonnes in terms of paddy) from 6,20,430 hectares of land for the region.

However, enthusiastic farmers have finally cultivated Aman rice on 6,21,505 hectares of land, 100.17 percent of the targeted land area, in all five districts of Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari in the region.

Meanwhile, farmers have already harvested short duration and medium duration Aman rice on about 1,24,301 hectares of land and got an average yield rate of 3.14 tonnes of clean rice per hectare of land.

After visiting Aman rice fields in different rural areas of Rangpur region with his officials in recent days, Krishibid Islam said that Aman rice plants got ample sunlight to grow superbly amidst frequent rainfall, resulting in superb yield of the crop.

“After harvesting Aman rice, farmers are sowing seeds of early variety potato, winter vegetables and other Rabi crops on the same land creating huge jobs for farm-workers and widespread activity across a vast field in the region,” he added.

Farmers Manik Mia of village Darshona and Ariful Haque of village Najirdigar in Rangpur Sadar upazila said that they have cultivated varieties of Aman rice on their seven and eight acres of land respectively this season.

“As harvest of the crop continues with excellent yield rates, we are expecting high yield rates of the crop between 45 and 55 mounds (every 40-kg is one mound) per acre of land this time,” Manik Mia said.

Farmers Mofizar Rahman of village Dolapara in Taraganj upazila, Nur Islam of Mohipur village in Gangachara upazila and Solaiman Ali of village Ranipukur in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur said that they are getting excellent yield from harvesting Aman rice.

Mohsin Ali of village Kathihara in Rangpur Sadar upazila said farmers are currently selling their newly harvested Aman paddy between Taka 1,150 and 1,250 per mound depending on varieties in local markets.
