RANGPUR, May 16, 2025 (BSS) - A new horizon in healthcare is about to open for the people of the northern region with the opening of a 460-bed modern cancer, kidney and heart disease treatment centre in Rangpur next year.
The ongoing construction work of the centre at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) premises in the city will be complete by December 2026.
While visiting the construction work of the multi-story building of the centre on Friday, Public Works Department Chief Engineer Mohammad Shamim Akhter said that the construction work of the centre is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Along with inspecting the construction site of the building, he directed the construction company to ensure the quality of the work and complete the project within the stipulated time.
Director of RpMCH Brigadier General Md Ashiqur Rahman and concerned engineers and representatives of the construction company were present at the time.
After the construction of the building is completed, medical service activities will begin by installing modern medical equipment and deploying the necessary manpower there.
The pressure of travelling to Dhaka or abroad for advanced treatment for patients in the northern region will be reduced to a large extent.
At this time, the RpMCH Director said, currently, the RpMCH hospital has various problems. To handle the pressure of patients, it has become necessary to expand the hospital's space and infrastructure.
The launch of the new centre will ease that pressure to some extent. There was no separate and complete medical centre for cancer, kidney and heart disease in the northern part of the country.
As a result, patients had to go to Dhaka or abroad for advanced treatment. This resulted in time, money, physical hardship and endless suffering for the patients.
Local people hope that the new centre will bring not only the people of Rangpur but also the people of the surrounding districts under the ambit of advanced medical treatment.
This centre with modern facilities will have experienced doctors, nurses and support staff.
The latest technology equipment will be used for diagnosing diseases.
