LAKSHMIPUR, Nov 9, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing a school boy namely Shimul in Sadar Upazila in 2014.

District and Sessions Judge Md Rahibul Islam handed down the verdict to Elias Hossain, Masudur Rahman alias Kala Masud, Nur Mohammad Liton, Saddam, Anowar Hossain and Shariar Rashed.

The court also fined each of the convicts Taka 20,000. If they failed to pay the amount, they will serve one year in jail more.

According to the prosecution on April 21 in 2014, Rabiul Islam Shimul, who used to live at his uncle's house at Chandraganj Dewpara village, was shot dead by the convicts. Following the murder Shimul's uncle filled a murder case with Lakshmipur Sadar Model Thana. On March 4 in 2020, police pressed the charge sheet.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the court gave the order in presence of Elias Hossain. The rest five are on run. The court also acquitted one Taju Bhuiyan in the case, said Public Prosecutor advocate Jasim Uddin.
