National Mourning Day observed in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Aug 15, 2023 (BSS)- The National Mourning day and 48th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujuibur Rahman was observed here with a clear vow to bring back all fugitive criminal killers.

In observance of the day, floral wreaths were placed on the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujuibur Rahman near Circuit house here from 9 am today.

At first, Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujon placed a floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at his mural here.

Later, he was followed by lawmaker Md Mojaharul Houque Prodhan from Panchagarh-1 constituency, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the distrct Johurul Islam, Police Super SM Sirajul Huda, Zilla Parished Chairman Hannan Sheikh , Sadar Upazila Chairman Amirul Islam, different schools and colleges, district Chattra league, district administration, socio-cultural organisations paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing floral wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu at the circuit house.

The day's programmes started with hoisting of national flags at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and
educational institutions after sunrise.

The other programmes that have taken to mark the day are wearing black badges, placing wreaths, discussion, recitation from holy Quran, art
competition, Milad Mahfils and offered special prayers seeking divine blessing for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his other family members who embraced martyrdom on August 15 in 1975.
 
Later, a mourning procession was brought out from the circuit house area which paraded the different streets of the town. Railways Minister Md, Nurul Islam Sujon, DC Johurul Huque, Police Super SM Sirajul Huda and a large number of Awami League leaders and workers took part in the rally.

Followed by the procession, a discussion meeting was held at the DC conference hall room for marking the day.

Improved diets were served to the inmates of hospitals, jail, shishu paribars, vagabond centres, orphanages and shelter homes of elderly
people of the district.

On the occasion, similar programmes were taken in all five upazilas of the district.
