CHATTOGRAM, Aug 9, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today awarded capital punishment to a youth for stabbing to death his roommate in 2017.

Judge of the Chattogram Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court Begum Serajam Munira handed down the verdict convicting Md Hossain,20, son of late Rafiqul Islam, hailed from Sandwip Upazila of the district.

The court also awarded Taka 30,000 as fine to him, in default, he will have to suffer more one year imprisonment.

The prosecution story in brief is that Md Hossain, stabbed to death to his roommate, a day labourer Maksudur Rahman Maksud, over a previous enmity at Halishahor area in the night of March 13 in 2017.

Later, victim’s brother Ripon filed a murder case against Md Hossain with Halishahor Thana over the incident on that day.
Police also submitted a charge-sheet before the court accusing Md Hossain on April 30, 2017 while the court framed charge against him on November 8, in 2017.

The court pronounced the judgment after examining 12 prosecution witnesses out of 21 in absence of the convict, court sources said.
