International Day of the Midwife celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, May 6, 2023 (BSS)- International Day of the Midwife was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today with a call to highlight the important role of the midwives in the health of mothers, children and their families.
 
This year's theme of the day is 'Together Again, From Evidence to Reality'.
 
Marking the day, Mamota Project which is being implemented at 11 unions of the district by SKS Foundation as implementing partner in technical assistance of Save the Children Bangladesh with the financial support of KOICA, chalked out different programmes.
 
In the morning around 11 am, a discussion meeting was held at the hall room of Mamota Project field office of the town here with project coordinator Baharam Khan in the chair.
 
Deputy Director (DD) of the Department of Family Planning (DFP) Prosenjeet Pronoy Misra attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and journalist of the national news agency Sarker Mohammad Shahiduzzaman spoke at the event as the special guest.
 
Moderated by upazila coordinator of the project Farzana Sultana, the function was also addressed, among others, by senior officer of Save the Children ABU Bakar Siddique, midwives of the project Rowzatul Zannat, Mollika Khatun and Afia Khatun.
 
The midwives in their speeches emphasized for ensuring four times antenatal care for the pregnant mothers and same times of postnatal care for them in a bid to do welfare of the mothers and children.
 
Prosenjeet Pronoy Misra underscored the need for bringing all pregnant mothers under an institutional delivery system in lieu of home delivery one to check the mortality rate of mothers and children.
 
He also urged the midwives of the project to be more serious and professional in providing their delivery services to the pregnant mothers to reduce the mortality rate of mothers and children to achieve the sustainable development goals of the government by 2030.
 
A good number of midwives, officials and staff of the project including journalists attended the function.
