World Consumer Rights Day observed in Bogura

BOGURA, March 15, 2023(BSS) - The World Consumer Rights Day-2023 was observed here as elsewhere in the globe today with a call to protect the consumers' rights.

This year's theme of the day is ''Empowering consumers through clean energy transitions (Nirapod Jalani, Vokta-bandhob Prithibi)'.

Marking the day, the district administration and Directorate of National Consumers Rights Protection jointly chalked out various programmes to observe the day.

On the occasion, a rally was brought out from the premise of the deputy commissioner (DC) office which paraded the important streets of the town and ended at its conference room this morning.

Later, a discussion was held on the ‘World Consumers Rights Day’ at the conference room of the DC office this morning.

DC Md Saiful Islam addressed the function as chief guest with additional deputy commissioner (General) Dinesh Sarkar in the chair.

The chief guest said that the government is working to ensure safe food through the Directorate of National Consumers Rights Protection to ensure the rights of the consumers.

He warned that the government will show zero tolerance against food adulteration during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.  Legal action will be taken against the persons involved in preparing and selling adulterated food items during the Ramadan.

Additional Superintendent of Police Helena Akhtar, assistant director of Bogura office of the consumer rights protection Iftekharul Alam Rizvi, veteran freedom fighter and former president of Bogura Journalist Union and executive member of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist Akhtaruzzaman, among others, spoke on the function.

A large number of government officials, social workers, NGO activists and journalists attended the programme.
