Stocks extend losing streak

DHAKA, March 13, 2024 (BSS) - Stocks today extended its losing streak as the risk-averse investors preferred to book profit on quick-gaining shares.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed the day with 32.77 points down and settled at 5,974.11 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 7.27 points to finish at 2,056.57 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the day with 9.08 points down to close at 1,300.82.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 4,833.04 million on the premier bourse, which was Taka 5,635.32 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 394 issues traded, 222 closed lower, 112 remained higher and 60 others remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

LOVELLO became the most-traded stock, followed by FUWANGCER, GOLDENSON, RUPALILIFE and SSSTEEL.

ASIATICLAB was the day's top gainer, soaring 9.97 per cent while KARNAPHULI was the worst loser, losing 5.74 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also fell sharply with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 157.82 points to settle at 17,105.45 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) shedding 94.69 points to close at 10,271.14.

Of the issues traded, 131 declined, 60 advanced and 26 issues remained unchanged.

The port-city bourse traded 43.18 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 11.73 crore.
