DHAKA, Feb 1, 2024 (BSS) - Diplomats including ambassadors, high commissioners and commercial counselors of various foreign missions, high commissions and embassies, working in Bangladesh would visit the ongoing Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2024 at Purbachal on February 6 where local products would be exhibited before the foreigners.

State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu and senior secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh will accompany them during the visit and thus highlight the potentials of other exportable items before them other than RMG.

Talking to BSS, Tapan Kanti Ghosh said, "During the visit to the DITF, the diplomats and envoys would be briefed about the high potentials of the exportable items like jute, light engineering, pharmaceuticals, plastics and leather products."

He said although the DITF has long been regarded as the sourcing center of different products, but for the first time an initiative has been taken for making a visit by the diplomats of various countries at the fair in order to make branding of local products.

Tapan said during the visit, the vice chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) would make a presentation on the overall aspects of the Bangladeshi exportable items before the envoys while the entrepreneurs of the concerned sectors would make separate presentations on exportable products like jute, light engineering, plastics, pharmaceuticals and leather products.

The secretary said following directives from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Commerce has been trying to diversify the exportable items not relying on one or two products.

Earlier, on January 21, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 28th edition of the DITF 2024 at Bangabandhu Bangladesh China Friendship Exhibition Center at Purbachal while the fair would continue till February 20.
