DHAKA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS)- Sheikh Parvez Jibon produced a stellar allround
performance as Bangladesh U23 team whacked visiting Malaysia past by 153 runs
in the first 50-over match of the series at the Bashundhara Sports Complex
today.
After being sent in to bat, Bangladesh recovered from a disastrous start to
post 290-9 in 50 overs, with Mohammad Abdullah narrowly missing out on a
century and Sheikh Parvez Jibon providing a late flourish.
Parvez then returned figures of 5-16 to bowl Malaysia out for just 137 in
40.5 overs.
Bangladesh slumped to 11-3 early in the innings before captain Kalam Siddiqui
Aleen, who made 34, and Shahriar Shakib, with 21, helped steady the innings.
The hosts were nevertheless reduced to 100-5 before Abdullah and Ahrar Amin
launched a crucial recovery.
The pair added 103 runs for the sixth wicket. Ahrar struck 61 from 62 balls
before being dismissed with the score on 203-6.
Abdullah continued to anchor the innings but fell for 94 from 100 balls,
having struck seven fours and four sixes. Parvez then smashed 35 off 18 balls
to propel Bangladesh to a competitive total.
Malaysia struggled throughout the chase as Bangladesh's bowlers struck at
regular intervals. The visitors slipped to 91-8 before Ahmed Zubaidi and Syed
Junaid Khan briefly frustrated the hosts with a 46-run ninth-wicket
partnership.
Zubaidi top-scored for Malaysia with 42 from 66 balls before he was trapped
lbw by Parvez. Junaid, who made 21 from 26 balls, was bowled soon afterwards
as Malaysia were dismissed for 137 in 40.5 overs.
Parvez was the outstanding bowler, claiming 5-16 runs in 7.5 overs. Maruf
Mridha and Sadhin Islam took two wickets each.
Parvez was named Player of the Match for his decisive five-wicket haul.
The second one-day of the three-match series will be played at the same venue
on Friday.
Bangladesh U23 earlier swept a two-match T20 series against Malaysia.
