DHAKA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - A 27-memebr of Bangladesh skating team due to leave for China tonight (Thursday) aiming to win medals at the Asian Cup Skate Track Series Club Championship scheduled to be held in Lishui from August 10-12.

A 27-member skating team included thirteen male and nine female skaters.

Bangladesh will face strong competition from hosts China, South Korea, Iran, Russia and Chinese Taipei in the international meet. 

Despite the challenging field, the team remains confident after its impressive performance in last year's competition, where Bangladesh won two gold and two bronze medals.

Skater Nabiyun Islam emerged as the standout performer, making history by winning gold medals in the men's 500m speed race and 1,000m sprint events.

Before the team's departure, National Sports Council (NSC) Director (Sports) Zahed Parvez Chowdhury officially saw off the contingent with a floral reception at the NSC headquarters.

Bangladesh Skating Federation president Dr. Kamruzzaman Kaiser, general secretary Lutfur Rahman, Bangladesh Athletics Federation general secretary advocate Ali Imam Tapan and Bangladesh Volleyball Federation general secretary Abdul Mumin Saddam were also present there.
