Mrittunjoy registers his second hat-trick in BPL

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS)- Fast bowler Mrittunjoy Chowdhury became the first
bowler to have more than one hat-trick in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)
history when he achieved the feat for the second time during his side Rangpur
Riders game against Noakhali Express at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium
on Friday.

Mrittunjoy who was erratic throughout the game, sealed the hat-trick by
dismissing Mahidul Islam Ankon, Zahir Khan and Bilal Sami in the third,
fourth and fifth ball of the last over.

He eventually finished with these three wickets, conceding 43 runs in 2.5
overs. However, despite his effort Rangpur tasted a 9-run defeat to Noakhali
Express.

He had done the feat previously in 2022 during his stint with Chattogram
Challengers against Sylhet Sunrisers.

Mrittunjoy's feat is overall the 10th instance of hat-trick in BPL and second
in this season.

Earlier, Noakhali Express pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana achieved the feat against
Sylhet Titans two weeks ago at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

His record came in the 18th over, when he sent back Sylhet captain Mehidy
Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed and Syed Khaled Ahmed in consecutive three
deliveries, finishing with figures for 4-34.

Despite his stellar feat, Noakhali suffered a heartbreaking one-wicket defeat
to Sylhet.

The exclusive hat-trick club in BPL was opened by Pakistan first bowler
Mohammad Sami in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2012.

Pacer Al-Amin Hossain was the first Bangladesh bowler to claim a BPL hat-
trick in 2015. Later, offspinner Aliss Al Islam, pacers Mrittunjoy Chowdhury
and Shoriful Islam followed him before Mehedi Rana.
