COX’S BAZAR, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid the foundation stones of the newly constituted Matamuhuri upazila and thana in the district today.

Special prayers and a munajat were offered on the occasion.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam were present among others on the occasion.

The final approval for the formation of Matamuhuri upazila was granted at the 120th meeting of the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) on May 7. 

The new administrative unit was created by combining the seven southern unions of Chakaria Upazila.

The unions are-Badrakhali, Purba Bara Bheola, Paschim Bara Bheola, Saharbil, Bheola Manikchar, Dhemushia and Kenakhali.

Located on the banks of the Matamuhuri River, the upazila covers an area of 143.8 square kilometers.
