DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - Nasum Ahmed, a left-arm spinner, registered the fourth-best bowling performance in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) history after claiming 5 wickets for just 7 runs in his side Sylhet Titans' match against Noakhali Express at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.
This was Nasum's first-ever five-wicket haul in his 147-match T20 career.
The current record holder for the best bowling in the BPL is fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who took 7 wickets for 19 runs in four overs during Rajshahi's match against Dhaka in the last BPL. Following him are Pakistan's Mohammad Amir (6-17), Mohammad Sami (5-6), and Fahim Ashraf (5-7).
While Fahim Ashraf also claimed 5 wickets for 7 runs, Nasum achieved his feat by completing his full quota of overs, giving him a superior economy rate.
Among Bangladesh bowlers, Nasum's performance ranks as the second-best in terms of economy rate, just behind Shakib Al Hasan, who took 6 wickets for just 6 runs in a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match.
Nasum is now tied for third in the record for taking five or more wickets for the fewest runs on Bangladesh soil in T20s.
The record is held by Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath, who took 5 wickets for 3 runs against New Zealand in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Chattogram.
The world record for the fewest runs conceded in a T20I match while taking 5 wickets is held by Gede Priyandana of Indonesia, who took 5 wickets for just 1 run against Cambodia in Bali on December 23.
Remarkably, Priyandana took all 5 wickets in a single over.
