Afif slams hat-trick, Haider hits maiden ton

DHAKA, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS)-The Day 2 of the first round of National Cricket
League (NCL) experienced some tough battle on the field but Afif Hossain and
Abu Haider Rony hogged the limelight with their feat.

Afif, primarily a batter, bagged a hat-trick, his first in the first class
cricket while Haider, who is originally pace bowler, hit his maiden ton.

Khulna vs Barishal

Afif Hossain became the first bowler in the ongoing 27th National Cricket
League (NCL) to bag a hat-trick as Khulna sniffed a victory against Barishal
at Khulna Divisional Stadium.

The record made Afif the 19th Bangladeshi bowler to take a hat-trick in
first-class cricket. Before him, 18 Bangladeshi bowlers had achieved this
feat, amongst whom Elias Sunny, Sohag Gazi, and Mohammad Ashraful each
recorded two hat-tricks.

Primarily a batter, Afif finished with 6-31 including his hat-trick with his
wily off-spin, his second best bowling figure in first class cricket, behind
his 7-66 against Rajshahi in the 2018 edition of the NCL.

His bowling forced Barishal to be all out for just 126 in their first
innings, in reply of Khulna's 313 all out. Opener Zahiduzzaman was the lone
warrior with 57.

Instead of batting second time, Khulna enforced a follow-on but Barishal
regrouped well to end the day on 119-4.

Despite a good effort in the second innings, Barishal are trailing by 68 runs
still.

Opener Iftekhar Hossain Ifti made highest 40 in their second innings while
Fazle Mahmud scored 32.

Shamsur Rahman was batting on 24 with Tasamul Haque on 3 at stumps.

Earlier, resuming the day on 312-9, Khulna were able to add just one run to
their overnight total.

Mymensingh vs Sylhet

Abu Haider Rony, primarily a pace bowler, hit his maiden first class century
as Mymensingh Division kept Sylhet at bay at Sylhet International Cricket
Stadium.

Haider's century helped Mymensingh pile up 401 before being all out in their
first innings after resuming the Day 2 on 268-7.

Sylhet reached 198-5 at stumps with Rejaur Rahman Raja batting on 14 and
Tofael Ahmed on 11. Opener Shykat Ali scored 53 before retiring from the
innings due to injury.

Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim who will be the first Bangladeshi batter to play 100
Tests when Bangladesh take on Ireland in the next month made just 20.

The day, however, belonged to Haider who single-handedly propelled the side
past 400 after it looked improbable. He got the support from Shohidul Islam
who added 33.

But after adding 76 runs with Haider, he became the eight batter out with the
scoreboard reading 319-8.

Haider then alone made 70 runs to take the side past 400 when No. 10 and 11
batters Rakibul Hasan and Maruf Mridha scored 6 and 2 runs respectively.

Khaled Ahmed and Asadullah Al Galib scalped three wickets apiece for Sylhet.

Rangpur vs Dhaka

Veteran Naeem Islam hit his 34th first class century as Rangpur Division kept
them aloft over Dhaka Division at Sylhet Academy Ground.

Naeem was batting on 111, helping Rangpur reach 308-8 at stumps. They
eventually ended the Day 2 with 87 runs lead as Dhaka were bowled out for 221
in its first innings earlier.

Naeem held together the innings after the top order batters failed to carry
their start.

He stitched two important partnerships to edge Rangpur ahead-sharing 88 with
Tanbir Hyder (45) for the sixth wicket and 56 with Alauddin Babu (21) for the
eight wicket.

Ripon Mondol claimed 3-54 while Salauddin Shakil and Taibur Rahman picked up
two wickets apiece.

Chattogram vs Rajshahi

Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad claimed 6-39 as Chattogram Division kept them on
course of a victory against Rajshahi after the Day 2 play at Rajshahi
Divisional Stadium.

Resuming the day on one for two, Rajshahi were bowled out for just 196,
conceding a massive 204-run lead with Murad making the most of the damage.

Chattogram, which put up 401 before being all out, reached 133-4 in their
second innings, extending the lead to 338 at stumps.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy followed his 127 with 51 in the second innings.
Yasir Ali who made 129 in the first innings, was batting on 26 with Irfan
Shukkur on 18 when the bails were drawn for Day 2.

Earlier, captain Sabbir Hossain (57) and veteran Sabbir Rahman (54) struck
half-centuries amid Murad's regular strike to save Rajshahi from ultimate
blushes. Taijul Islam was the other notable scorer with 41.
