DHAKA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Barrister Kayser Kamal today sought India's cooperation in successfully implementing Bangladesh's e-Parliament system, saying parliamentary cooperation between the two countries can create a platform for sharing experiences and modernising parliamentary activities.

He said this when the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on him at his office in the JS Bhaban here.

During the meeting, the two sides held cordial discussions on bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India, parliamentary diplomacy, use of information technology, modernisation of parliamentary activities and ways to further strengthen mutual cooperation, said a press release of parliament secretariat here.

At the outset, Dinesh Trivedi praised the outstanding architectural design of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, designed by renowned architect Louis I. Kahn.

Referring to the historic and friendly relations between Bangladesh and India, he said the two countries are bound by shared history, culture, heritage and mutual interests.

The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh stressed increasing parliamentary communication and cooperation to further advance the existing bilateral relations.

He said greater interaction between parliamentarians of the two countries, regular exchanges of views and reciprocal visits by the two parliaments can play an important role in further strengthening bilateral relations.

Describing the Indian Parliament as a modern parliament, Kayser Kamal said Bangladesh has already taken an initiative to introduce an e-Parliament system and expressed hope that India would extend cooperation for its successful implementation.

He said having an experienced parliamentarian like Dinesh Trivedi as India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh presents an excellent opportunity in this regard.

The Deputy Speaker expressed hope that Trivedi would play a supportive role in building a bridge between the two countries in parliamentary communication and in modernising Bangladesh's parliamentary system.

Kayser Kamal said creating avenues for parliamentary diplomatic cooperation between Bangladesh and India could provide an excellent platform for the two countries to exchange experiences.

Both sides expressed hope that Bangladesh-India bilateral relations would become stronger by giving the highest priority to people's welfare, expanding areas of mutual cooperation and further strengthening mutual trust, confidence and stability.

Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh and senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
