KHULNA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna District Unit BNP Convener Md Moniruzzaman Montu today said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is attaching the highest priority to environmental protection and tackling the risks posed by climate change.

“There is no alternative to planting more trees to protect the country from the adverse impacts of climate change. That is why a programme has been taken to plant and maintain 25 crore trees over the five years,” he said.

He was speaking at tree plantation programmes at different places in Batiaghata upazila, as part of the central programme marking the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Montu called upon party leaders and activists as well as people from all walks of life to come forward to face natural disasters and build a green and liveable environment.

SM Monirul Hasan Bappi, acting member secretary of the District Unit BNP and Administrator of the Khulna District Council, said tree plantation was essential for maintaining ecological balance, tackling the impacts of climate change and building a green and liveable Bangladesh for future generations.

District BNP joint convener S M Shamim Kabir, BNP leaders Khandoker Faruk Hossain, Ruhul Momin Liton, Abdul Mannan Mistry, GM Harun-or-Rashid, GM Russel, Ayub Molla Ashik, Masum Billah, Shahidul and Wahidul Islam, Badal Shafik Jabbar and others were present at the events, among others.
