DHAKA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Industrial Police have agreed to strengthen long-term cooperation to promote labour rights, industrial peace and stability and address labour-related issues in the country's industrial sector.

The agreement was reached at a courtesy meeting and exchange of views held at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Industrial Police today.

ILO Bangladesh Country Director Max Tunon and Senior Programme Officer Rifat Jabin Khan paid a courtesy call on Additional Inspector General of Industrial Police Gazi Jashim Uddin.

Senior officials of the Industrial Police were also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the Bangladesh Industrial Police gave a presentation outlining its regular activities, labour-related challenges in industrial areas, measures to protect workers and industries and the role of police in preventing and resolving labour disputes.

The presentation also highlighted the activities of Industrial Area Police in maintaining peace and stability in major industrial zones.

The discussions focused on the ILO's objectives concerning labour rights, social dialogue, fair working conditions and employment, alongside the responsibilities and activities of the 
Bangladesh Industrial Police.

The two sides exchanged views on protecting workers' rights, ensuring stability in the industrial sector and identifying areas for greater cooperation on labour-related issues.

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation and coordination over the long term. 

They described the meeting as an important step toward developing mutual understanding and establishing a foundation for future collaboration.

The ILO Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Industrial Police expressed hope that stronger cooperation between the two institutions would enable them to play a more effective role in promoting labour rights, industrial peace and stability and resolving labour-related challenges in Bangladesh.
