DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Panchagarh District Council Administrator Alhaj Md. Touhidul Islam.
Touhidul Islam, a veteran politician of Panchagarh and five-time elected mayor of Panchagarh Municipality, passed away at around 10pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU).
He was also a senior joint convener of the Panchagarh district unit of BNP and convener of its Panchagarh municipal unit.
In a condolence message, the State Minister said Touhidul Islam was a veteran, dedicated, courageous and people-oriented leader in the local political arena. He said Touhidul Islam had worked for a long time with dedication, courage and sincerity to uphold the ideals of BNP, democracy and the rights of the people.
The State Minister further said Touhidul Islam's active role in keeping party leaders and activists united, revitalizing organizational activities, and participating in democratic movements and struggles would remain memorable in the history of the Panchagarh BNP.
The people of Panchagarh would remember with respect his longstanding contributions to municipal services, development of the area and the welfare of ordinary people, he said.
In the condolence message, the State Minister also recalled his personal relationship with Touhidul Islam. He said Touhidul Islam's death was personally very painful for him.
He also prayed for the eternal peace and salvation of the departed soul and sought the blessings of Almighty Allah, praying that Allah forgive all his shortcomings and grant him the highest place in Jannatul Ferdous.
Upon receiving the news of his death, the State Minister immediately rushed to the hospital, where he paid his last respects to the deceased and consoled the bereaved family members.
