DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - A Bangladeshi worker was killed, another remained missing and seven others sustained serious injuries following a gas leak and subsequent explosion at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) in Russia.

The deceased was identified as Zakir Hossain of Kishoreganj, while the missing worker is Md Alal Hossain Raju of Gangni, Meherpur, according to a progress report issued by the Labour Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow today.

The embassy said Zakir's body was recovered this morning following the incident at Plants 4 and 10 of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex under LNG Sinopec Engineering Group.

It said the overall death toll from the incident is feared to be as high as 15.

Alal Hossain Raju remains missing, while identification of some bodies has yet to be completed as they were severely burnt in the incident.

The embassy said there is a possibility that the missing Bangladeshi worker could be among the bodies kept at a hospital, but his identity has not yet been confirmed.

Seven critically injured Bangladeshi workers have meanwhile been transferred from Amur to a hospital in Vladivostok, around 3,200 kilometres away, for advanced treatment.

Of them, six are currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the embassy said, adding that it is maintaining close contact with the authorities concerned to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured workers.

The Bangladesh Embassy has also initiated necessary procedures to repatriate Zakir's body.

The company has taken steps to send the body to Bangladesh under the embassy's supervision, while the mission has already prepared the required certification and other necessary documents for the repatriation.

The embassy said it would remain engaged with LNG Sinopec Engineering Group to ensure payment of Zakir's outstanding dues and compensation.

It added that further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
