DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is expected to deliver its

verdict in October in the Rohingya genocide case against Myanmar, Gambia's Attorney General and

Justice Minister Dawda A. Jallow said today.

Jallow conveyed this during a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir on

the sidelines of the 23rd OIC Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Jeddah,

according to a foreign ministry press release issued here.

The Gambian minister said the verdict on accountability for atrocities committed against the

Rohingyas would play a critical role in finding a sustainable solution to the protracted crisis.

Kobir appreciated Gambia's leadership in pursuing accountability for the Rohingyas before the ICJ

and underscored the importance of close cooperation between Dhaka and Banjul on the issue.

He particularly stressed enhanced cooperation during the Bangladesh Foreign Minister's presidency

of the UN General Assembly to keep the Rohingya crisis high on the global agenda.

The state minister also called for advancing efforts towards a comprehensive and sustainable

solution to the crisis, including the safe, dignified and voluntary return of the Rohingyas to

Myanmar.

On the sidelines of the OIC meeting, Kobir separately met Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign

Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi and reaffirmed Bangladesh's support for Doha's mediation

efforts between Iran and the United States.

He commended Qatar's role in promoting dialogue as well as regional peace and stability.

During the meeting, Kobir requested Qatar to prioritise LNG supplies to Bangladesh as soon as the

Strait of Hormuz reopens and maritime movement resumes.

The Qatari state minister thanked Bangladesh for its support and expressed Doha's readiness to

further strengthen energy cooperation with Dhaka.

The two sides also discussed other bilateral issues.

Kobir also held a brief meeting with Maldives Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam, during which the

two sides discussed bilateral issues and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
