DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh today reaffirmed its unequivocal 
support for the Palestinian cause while urging OIC member states to 
strengthen international efforts for safe, dignified and voluntary 
repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir made the call while 
addressing the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers 
(CFM) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, according 
to a foreign ministry press release issued here.

Reiterating Bangladesh's support for the Palestinian people, Kobir reaffirmed 
Dhaka's commitment to a just and lasting settlement based on the two-state 
solution, with an independent and sovereign State of Palestine living 
alongside Israel in peace and security.

Turning to the Rohingya crisis, the state minister called upon OIC member 
states to contribute to the voluntary trust fund established to support The 
Gambia's case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning 
atrocities committed against the Rohingyas by Myanmar.

He also urged the OIC countries to strengthen international efforts to 
facilitate the safe, dignified and voluntary repatriation of the forcibly 
displaced Rohingyas to their homeland in Myanmar.

Kobir underscored the OIC's important role as the world's second-largest 
intergovernmental organisation in advancing the interests and wellbeing of 
the Muslim Ummah.

He welcomed newly elected OIC Secretary General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and 
assured him of Bangladesh's full support and cooperation throughout his 
tenure.

The state minister also appreciated the contributions of the outgoing 
secretary general and expressed hope that the new OIC chief would build upon 
the positive institutional developments achieved during the previous tenure.

Kobir expressed Bangladesh's gratitude to OIC member states for their support 
for the election of Bangladesh's Foreign Minister as President of the 81st 
Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
