DHAKA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed one Kakon Rana on a six-day remand in a case lodged over alleged fraud using fake Facebook (FB) accounts opened in the names and with photos of members of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's family and two of his officials.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

The CT-Cyber Crime Investigation Division's E-Fraud Investigation Team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested the man during a drive in the capital's Khilkhet area on Sunday.

The accused had allegedly opened fake Facebook accounts using the names and photos of members of the Prime Minister's family, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman and Personal Assistant Abdur Rahman Sunny.
