Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan’s inclusion in cabinet sparks celebration in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member and Narsingdi-2 lawmaker Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan’s assumption of office as the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, nearly five months after his landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election, has sparked widespread celebrations in his hometown of Narsingdi. 

A festive atmosphere prevailed in Narsingdi, particularly in Palash upazila, since Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan took oath as a member of the new cabinet on Friday evening (August 21). BNP leaders and activists, as well as people from different professions, joined the celebrations.

Party activists distributed sweets to mark the occasion.

After assuming office as minister, leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations, along with people from all strata, visited Dr Moyeen Khan’s residence in Gulshan, Dhaka, to greet him with flowers. He was showered with floral greetings and warm wishes from the visitors.

Among those who greeted the minister were - Palash upazila BNP President Abdus Sattar, General Secretary Prof Saiful Islam, Senior Joint General Secretary Bahauddin Bhuiyan Milton, Ghorashal municipality BNP President and former vice-chairman Alam Molla, General Secretary Delwar Hossain, Palash Upazila Press Club Acting President Jahangir Kabir, General Secretary Nur-e-Alam Rony, Palash upazila Sramik Dal President Al-Amin Bhuiyan, Jubo Dal President Advocate MA Bached, General Secretary Masud Khan, Palash upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Nazmul Hossain Bhuiyan Sohel, Member Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Papon, Ghorashal municipality Jubo Dal President Zainal Abedin, General Secretary Azizul Islam, Chhatra Dal Convener Amanullah Aman and Member Secretary Ariful Islam Arif. 

Leaders and activists from different levels of Narsingdi-2 constituency and the district were also present.

Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, Dr Moyeen Khan received a floral welcome from the secretary and officials and employees of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives when he went to the ministry on his first working day as minister.

Dr Moyeen Khan has previously served successfully as minister and state minister in several important ministries of the government. Local BNP leaders and activists said significant progress had been made in infrastructure development as well as in the education and technology sectors in Palash and other parts of Narsingdi under his leadership.

Local leaders and residents expressed hope that his return to the cabinet would help accelerate overall development activities in Palash, Narsingdi and across the country.
