RAJSHAHI, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - Discussions were held on creating employment opportunities in Japan for skilled workers from Rajshahi and attracting Japanese investment to the city.
The issues came up at a courtesy meeting and exchange of views between Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Md Mahfuzur Rahman Riton and a Japanese business delegation at Nagar Bhaban today.
The discussions also covered potential cooperation and investment in mango processing, cold storage for agricultural products, healthcare and information technology. The establishment of Japanese-language educational institutions in Rajshahi was also discussed.
At the meeting, the participants stressed the importance of utilizing Rajshahi's skilled workforce in various sectors in Japan.
They also discussed the possibility of establishing a "Sister City" relationship between Rajshahi and a Japanese city. Such a partnership could expand cooperation in education, culture, trade and technology.
Riton said RCC is interested in working with Japan in accordance with existing laws and regulations and subject to approval from the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives.
The Japanese delegation included Kawamoto Yasuhiro, CEO of Japan Group; Yuta Shigemori, Representative Director of the General Incorporated Association Hummingbird; Seiji Ishimoto, Executive Director of West Okayama Medical Clinic and CEO of Handson Land; and Md Ziaul Karim of the International Department of Okayama Business College.
Professor Abu Sayeed of the Department of Marketing at Rajshahi University also attended the meeting.
Among the RCC officials present were Chief Executive Officer Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Md Mamun, Superintending Engineers Khairul Baker and Ahmad Al Moin and Budget and Accounts Officer, along with other senior officials.
