DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - As part of implementing the Prime Minister's directive to keep waterways

around Dhaka navigable, the Department of Environment (DoE) today conducted inspections of

industrial establishments and collected liquid waste samples in Narayanganj and South Keraniganj to

prevent river pollution and protect the environment.

The inspections were carried out by the DoE's Dhaka Regional Office at six industrial establishments

located in Fatullah, Namapara, Shastapur and Kutubpur areas of Narayanganj district.

The establishments are Eurotex Knitwear Limited, Karnaphuli Textile Mill, Dhaka Textile Mills, M.M.

Dyeing, Messrs Shaheen Textile Mill and IFS Texwear.

During the inspections, liquid waste samples discharged by the factories were collected. The samples

will be sent to the Department of Environment's laboratory for testing.

If the tests confirm evidence of pollution, necessary legal action will be taken against the

respective establishments in accordance with the Environment Conservation Act and relevant rules.

Meanwhile, an inspection team from the Dhaka District Office under the DoE's Dhaka Region inspected

two factories - Azan Washing and Al Amin Washing - in South Keraniganj.

The inspection found that the two factories had been operating washing activities without obtaining

environmental clearance certificates and without installing effluent treatment plants (ETPs).

Liquid waste samples were collected from both factories. Other washing factories in the same area

were found closed during the inspection.

The Department of Environment said such inspections, monitoring and legal enforcement activities

would continue regularly to prevent pollution of rivers and water bodies, protect the environment

and safeguard public health.
