DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan today said the government is committed to meeting people's basic needs, including gas, electricity and water, while continuing development efforts to improve the quality of urban life.

He made the remarks while inaugurating road improvement and other development works in East Manikdi and North Manikdi under DNCC Ward No. 15.

The administrator said the DNCC is implementing programmes such as tree plantation, waterlogging reduction, mosquito control and other initiatives to make the capital more livable and greener.

Noting that Dhaka's population has exceeded the city's carrying capacity, he said increasing urbanisation has placed heavy pressure on gas, electricity and water supplies, but the government is addressing these challenges in a planned manner.

He urged residents to pay holding tax regularly, protect development projects and cooperate in ensuring sustainable urban development.

Highlighting dengue prevention, Shafiqul Islam called on citizens to keep their homes and surroundings clean and eliminate stagnant water to prevent Aedes mosquito breeding.

He also announced that illegally occupied canals under DNCC will be recovered, re-excavated and developed with walkways, seeking public cooperation to implement the initiative.
