DHAKA, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Special Metropolitan Magistrates of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disposed of 5,890 criminal cases and 3,417 traffic cases through summary trials in July as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement in the capital.

DMP Law Officer (District and Sessions Judge) Mohammad Ataul Haque said the criminal cases were disposed of across Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh and Uttara divisions. 

A total of 10,437 accused were produced before the courts, of whom 6,861 were sentenced to imprisonment. 

The courts imposed fines amounting to Tk 2.346 million, while confiscated and auctioned property was valued at Tk 258,230.

He said DMP and the Special Metropolitan Magistrates jointly conducted 33 special drives across the capital during the month to maintain law and order.

In traffic enforcement, 1,340 cases were filed under the Road Transport Act, 2018, while 3,417 traffic cases were disposed of, resulting in the collection of Tk 802,700 in fines.

The DMP said the prompt disposal of cases through summary trials has strengthened public confidence in the justice system and law enforcement while enhancing deterrence against crime and contributing to improved law and order in the capital.
