Ex-NBR member Matiur indicted in graft case

DHAKA, Aug 03, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today framed charges against former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman in a graft case, officially initiating his trial.
 
The court of Dhaka Divisional Special Judge BM Tarikul Kabir passed the order and set September 14 for starting the recording of depositions of the witnesses.
 
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Md Anwar Hossain filed the case on December 15, 2024, for concealing information of wealth of Taka 1.27 crore and amassing illegal wealth of Taka 5.28 crore.
 
The anti-graft body on February 3, 2026, submitted a charge sheet against Matiur, who had earlier come under intense public scrutiny in 2024 after his son booked a sacrificial goat for a staggering Taka 15 lakh.
 
On January 15, 2025, the Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested Matiur Rahman and his first wife, Laila Kaniz, from the city's Bashundhara Residential Area.
