DHAKA, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested 419 people in a 24-hour anti-crime operation and filed 71 cases, seizing drugs, suspected illegal telecommunications equipment and other items.
According to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release issued today, the arrests were made during coordinated raids across Dhaka's police divisions, including Ramna, Lalbagh, Wari, Motijheel, Tejgaon, Mirpur, Gulshan, Uttara and the Detective Branch.
Police said the seized items included 14 kg of cannabis, 914 yaba tablets and 350.8 grams of heroin.
Officers also recovered 28 Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) machines, 4,846 SIM cards of different mobile operators, 21 mobile phones, 14 laptops, various electronic devices, 52 cable connectors, 16 data connector machines, a power supply unit, a CCTV camera, 12 laptop chargers, 26 bottles of foreign liquor, a private car and Tk 209,700 in cash.
The DMP said legal proceedings against those arrested were underway.
The operation was part of the metropolitan police's regular drive against crime and narcotics across Dhaka.
