NATORE, Aug 2, 2026 (BSS) - A day laborer was killed after being struck by lightning while working in Chalan Beel in Singra upazila of the district this afternoon.
 
The deceased was identified as Milon Uddin, 30, son of Minhaj Uddin of Nojorpur village under Kolom union of the upazila.
 
Officer-in-Charge of Singra Police Station Rafiqul Islam said the incident occurred around 3.00 pm while Milon and several other laborers were cutting and retting jute in the Beel. As heavy rain and thunderstorms began, the workers took shelter in a safe place.
 
However, Milon returned to the field to collect his food container and clothes when he was struck by lightning. He was rescued and taken to the Singra Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead.
