DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) - Deputy Director General (Operations) of 
International Organization for Migration (IOM) Ugochi Daniels arrived in 
Dhaka early today on a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening 
cooperation on migration governance, labour migration and humanitarian 
issues.

She was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by IOM 
Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Iori Kato, United Nations Interim 
Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Carol Flore-Smereczniak and IOM Bangladesh 
Chief of Mission Dr. Laura Tom Bond.

During her visit, Daniels is scheduled to meet senior representatives of the 
Bangladesh government, officials of various United Nations agencies, 
development partners and communities supported by the IOM, according to an 
IOM statement here.

Her programme includes participating in the launch of Bangladesh's National 
Action Plan 2026-2030 under the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular 
Migration (GCM).

She will also visit Cox's Bazar and Madaripur districts and attend a series 
of engagements focusing on migration governance, climate-induced human 
mobility, labour migration, protection and humanitarian assistance.

The visit underscores continued cooperation between Bangladesh and the IOM in 
promoting safe, orderly and regular migration while addressing emerging 
migration and displacement challenges, the statement added.
