DNCC launches training for imams, meat processors ahead of Eid

DHAKA, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is providing training to imams and meat processors on sacrificial animal slaughtering, meat processing, leather preservation, and waste management ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

DNCC Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan inaugurated the training programme today in the capital's Mirpur.

He said the sacrificial process should be carried out in line with the training guidelines.

He noted that animal hides play an important role in the country's economy. Therefore, hides must be properly preserved and processed.

He added that it has been decided to distribute the required amount of salt free of charge for preserving hides.

He further said that seasonal workers must also be informed about the proper procedures so they can work hygienically.

Cleaning blood immediately with water after the sacrifice can help prevent foul odors, Khan said, adding that if sacrificial waste is placed in designated bags and left in front of homes, city corporation workers will remove it quickly.

Expressing hope that the entire city could be cleaned in the shortest possible time with everyone's cooperation, the administrator said, "The city corporation belongs not only to me, but to all of us. Through collective efforts, we will be able to remove sacrificial waste quickly."

DNCC Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Imru-al-Quais said this year the nationwide demand for sacrificial animals is estimated at 10.106 million.

He said the training has been organised to ensure proper preservation of the large volume of hides and meat produced during Eid-ul-Azha.

Participants will receive hands-on demonstrations on maintaining meat quality and preserving the quality of hides during animal sacrifice.

Before Eid, he requested imams to raise awareness among worshippers during Friday sermons regarding sacrificial waste management.

Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and trainee participant Mufti Habibullah said that animals must be sacrificed properly and according to halal procedures.

After slaughtering, sufficient time should be allowed for the blood to drain completely. Washing with water afterward will prevent blood clotting.
