DHAKA, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Projonmo today launched a cleanliness drive to implement the announcement of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s ‘Clean City, Green City’ programme.
DSCC Administrator Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the programme at Nagar Bhaban of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he said that just as freedom fighters had taken up arms in 1971 responding to the call of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for the country’s independence, freedom fighters and the pro-liberation war generation have again taken to the streets at the call of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to build Dhaka as a ‘Clean City, Green City’.
Thanking the valiant freedom fighters and the pro-liberation war generation, he said that the responsibility of the country would have to be carried forward by the new generation in the future. Inspired by patriotism, they must come forward in building the country and the city, he added.
He said, “Dhaka is our beloved city. To make this city acceptable and livable for all, we must first change ourselves. If we change, Dhaka will also change. We do not want Dhaka to remain on the list of the world’s worst cities; we want Dhaka to rank number one among clean, beautiful and green cities.”
The cleanliness drive began from Nagar Bhaban, passed through Gate No. 1 of the National Stadium, and concluded at the Nayapaltan central office of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
