Wedding joy turns to tragedy as 4 siblings from Chattogram die in Oman

CHATTOGRAM, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - The dream of celebrating their younger brother's special day was shattered as four siblings from Rangunia upazila in Chattogram tragically died together in Oman while shopping for his wedding.

They were expected to return home soon, but their lives were cut short in a suspected poisoning incident caused by an AC malfunction or gas leakage inside their car.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night, and the bodies of the four brothers were discovered by police the following morning.

The deceased brothers, who hailed from Bandarajar Para in Lalanagar Union under Rangunia upazila of the district, were identified as Rasedul Islam, Shahedul Islam, Sirajul Islam and Shahidul Islam.

All four were working in Oman. Two of them were scheduled to return home soon, said their second brother, Enamul Islam, who is currently in Bangladesh, confirming the heartbreaking news today.

According to local sources, the four brothers were found unconscious inside a car in the Muladdah area of Oman after going out together for wedding shopping.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night, but it was not reported to police until Wednesday morning. Police later arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies from the car.

Initially, police suspected that the brothers may have died from poisoning caused by a gas leak while sleeping inside the car with the AC running. 

An investigation into the cause of their deaths is ongoing. The bodies are currently in the custody of Rustaq Police Station and will later be taken to Muscat.

The tragic loss of the four siblings has cast a pall of grief over their family and the local community.
