BHOLA, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 10,140 kilograms of sea fish worth over Taka one crore during a special operation in Bhola aimed at enforcing the government’s ongoing 58-day fishing ban.
According to Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Coast Guard South Zone, the operation was jointly conducted by Coast Guard Base Bhola and the Department of Fisheries on Tuesday night in the area adjacent to Panpatti Bazar under Bhola Sadar Police Station.
The government has imposed a nationwide ban on all types of fishing in Bangladesh’s maritime waters from April 15 to June 11 to ensure the proper breeding, production, and conservation of marine fisheries resources, particularly hilsa.
Acting on suspicion, law enforcement officials searched three trucks during the operation and recovered a total of 10,140 kg of illegally caught sea fish.
Following the seizure, the fish were distributed among local orphanages, madrasas, and underprivileged families in the presence of the Senior Fisheries Officer of Bhola Sadar Upazila.
Lieutenant Commander Sujan said the Coast Guard would continue conducting similar operations in the future to protect the country’s fisheries resources and ensure strict enforcement of the seasonal fishing ban.
