CHATTOGRAM, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Land and Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin today said that political identity or participation in movements cannot be used as a shield for criminal activities, and strict action will be taken against offenders.
He made the remarks while addressing a rice distribution programme in Hathazari upazila of the district this afternoon.
Mir Helal stressed the importance of upholding law and order, saying that involvement in political movements for democracy does not give anyone the right to engage in unlawful activities.
He said individuals involved in criminal acts would not be considered part of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) or its affiliated organisations, even if they hold party positions or have photographs with him.
"Those involved in criminal activities will no longer be considered part of the BNP and its associate bodies," he said.
The state minister also highlighted recent administrative actions in Hathazari, including stopping illegal construction at Sattarghat, and initiatives to preserve the long-unused bus terminal while recovering government assets for public use.
He said such development and enforcement activities would continue in the future.
Local BNP leaders and others were present at the programme.
