DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam today said the Sayedabad bus terminal would be transformed into a modern and commuter-friendly facility by ensuring necessary services for transport owners and workers.
"Ensuring full utilization of bus terminals is essential to restoring discipline on the roads," he told a meeting on the Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal held at Nagar Bhaban here.
Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Coordinator Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, MP, senior DSCC officials, and representatives of road transport owners' and workers' federations were present at the meeting.
The meeting discussed issues relating to scattered illegal counters outside the terminal, disorderly bus parking and uncontrolled passenger boarding, which are causing severe traffic congestion and public suffering in the Sayedabad area.
Decisions taken at the meeting include removing unauthorized bus counters set up indiscriminately outside the terminal, ensuring all long-distance buses operate strictly from inside the terminal, relocating 110 ticket counters across six blocks inside the terminal on a fair basis, and evicting illegal shops from the terminal premises.
Besides, boundary walls will be constructed in open areas of the terminal to ensure bus movement according to the original design, including the use of flyovers.
As part of infrastructure development, initiatives have been taken to modernize the drainage system to eliminate waterlogging, remove abandoned buses and keep the environment clean.
To improve passenger services, plans were also presented at the meeting to install modern breastfeeding centres, spacious waiting rooms, clean toilets, a police outpost and neon signboards at the terminal.
